Mega List of Straight Edge Bands

With lots and lots of effort this list of Straight Edge bands past and present is over 300 with album covers, web site links and years of existence (for some). It's an excellent resource for looking at history of Straight Edge through music. I don't know how accurate it is of course, but like wikipedia, it's a great place to start. I certainly wouldn't consider myself an expert on SxE music, so I foudn this list great for finding bands I hadn't discovered yet.

Hi,

I found your blog under a Straight Edge search and am interested in learning more about your experiences with the Straight Edge movement. I am a senior at Tufts University in Medford, MA (close to Boston) and am writing my senior thesis on abstinence only education in the United States. I am looking specifically at the Straight Edge movement, as well as True Love Waits (a virginity pledge movement based out of Southern Baptist Church). I am focusing most of my research on the use of internet in the two movements, and how the movements are organized.

If you have any interest in talking to me about your experience with the Straight Edge movement, I would really appreciate the opportunity to ask you a few questions about the organization of the movement. You can contact me at alyssa.levin_scherz@tufts.edu.

Thank you!

Alyssa

Alyssa,

Straight Edge does not have guidelines that promote abstinence. Straight Edge is first and foremost about being Poison Free, and with regards to sex, this means that we are not promiscuous when it comes to sex. Straight Edge individuals can and do engage in sex before marriage, but will make conscious choices to have sexual relations with those that they are committed to or when they have made clear efforts to be safe.

I hope this helps your thesis, please check out some online Straight Edge communities such as xsisterhoodx.com where you can find other opinions.
