I hate when I hear people bashing kids that are under 21 or under 18 and say that they can't be Straight Edge because they aren't legal enough to buy cigarettes or alcohol. Sadly there are plenty of kids that drink and smoke, do drugs and have promiscuous sex when they are still young teenagers. So if you choose to claim edge at 15 (or whatever age) then good for you.
But at the same time, if you choose to claim Straight Edge, make sure you plan to be Edge for life, it's not a simple weekend thing or a "till 21" thing. Straight Edge is a commitment.
To everyone that thinks Straight Edge isn't for kids, stop hating someone for having better choices in life than you, live your own life.

So much respect for this post, I Claimed when i was merely 16 and got so much shit for it, Now so many kids being 13-17 have come up to me and actually asked if they are allowed to be edge because they are underage, Its such a great thing to see younger kids involved in the best life style. Like fuck my brothers 9 years old just going through school right now and he claims edge and wears Casey Jones shirts to school haha, Im not sure if hes in it for life but he hates when mom drinks ect.
What about gender? I know there is the sisterhood, but everytime I mention straight edge to most guys, I'm told that it's impossible for me to be straight edge for it's a brotherhood.
Tasha & all Straight Edge women: Any guy that says that is an asshole, plain and simple. There is no reason at all that a woman can't be Straight Edge. Guys that think it's just a brotherhood are pathetic and unwanted just like hate-edge and anyone that thinks that Straight Edge is a gang.

Yer man, I claimed edge a few months before I turned 17. Because I was an alcoholic, I wasn't big on tobacco but I did weed, coke and acid a fair bit, like spent a few grand in a year for myself on drugs and alcohol. But after a few to many bad experiences, and a major revelation, I decided to say fuck it.
I'm not against those who do various substances. Its all a personal choice. I made a choice to stay abstinent from that shit, just like all the drinkers and drug users make a choice to drink and do drugs. And I respect everyone and there right to do what they want.
I follow the satanic philosophy(anton lavey), and am getting a tattoo as soon as I turn 18 saying 'Live For Thy Self' on my right shoulder. I'll probably get an edge tat at a later stage, but anyway.
I'm 14, and edge. have been for a year. @ tasha, gender shouldn't matter. that's honestly the most ignorant thing i've ever heard. tell those guys off.
I personally think it's easier to start drinking and smoking at age 12-14 when your friends offer you alcohol and cigarettes, and you might not have clear vision about these things yet. I mean you might not know if you really want to drink, you just easily collapse because your friends do that and you wanna be "cool".
I'm 17 (and a girl, btw, girls can be sXe as well as guys) and I've never drank or smoked and I never will. I hear lot of people saying how I "will start drinking when I'm adult" and how I "can't have a clear vision yet". But I do: I've seen how almost all of my friends have started drinking at that age of 12-14, they think they're so cool but they're not even close, and I really don't wanna be like them. I'm proud to be sXe.

This may sound ridiculous but i started being straight edge when i was 9. and i was determined to stick with it. many years later and here i am- still straight edge. so yeah, much respect for this.

I am 16 years old. In my country (Belgium) you are allowed to drink beer at that age. My friends try to be all cool and they drink untill they are so wasted they throw up. I have seen good people go down because of drugs and alcohol and I have seen people die because they can't stop smoking. That is the reason why I have become Straight Edge. And I plan on staying Straight Edge for the rest of my life. (Forgive me if I wrote some things incorrectly. English is not my first language but I am pretty good at it thanks to videogames :P)
Man I claimed at 14 but was introduced to the concept at 10, then I went vegan at 16. Where I'm at no one give me crap for edge. Some "adults" give me crap for being vegan, but the kids in my scene have always just been like " that's hella cool, much respect."
